Why do technology executives send their children to a Silicon Valley school that is almost tech free?

May 8, 2017

Irresistible: Why We Can’t Stop Checking, Scrolling, Clicking and Watching is the latest New York Times bestselling book by Australian born New York based Adam Alter.

In this article from The Australian last month Alter discusses Steve Jobs not using technology with his kids and not allowing it in his home. He then goes on to talk about the Waldorf School of the Peninsula which "doesn’t allow iPhones, iPads, computers, etc. And 75 per cent of the kids there have parents who are tech execs in Silicon Valley. So that gives you a sense of how the tech titans view these products.”

I decided to visit the schools website here and found that a The New York Times story about why Silicon Valley parents are turning to Waldorf education had prompted a documentary film to be made about the school.

As the schools website says about the film,  "Preparing for Life takes viewers inside the Waldorf School of the Peninsula where the focus is on creativity, resilience, innovative thinking, and social and emotional intelligence over rote learning. Entrepreneurs, Stanford researchers, investment bankers, and parents who run some of the largest hi-tech companies in the world, weigh-in on what children need to navigate the challenges of the 21st Century in order to find success, purpose, and happiness in their lives."

See for yourself the documentary below.
